Who Am I

I’m Ryan. I live in Montana. I enjoy fishing, camping, road trips, backpacking, rafting, kayaking, and generally finding excuses to spend time outdoors. I have a diesel truck that gets me most of the places you’ll see on this site.

Why I started the site

I’m tired of the algorithm-driven crap that has taken over the places where we used to share photos, stories, and ideas.

Diesel & Tacos is my way of documenting trips, projects, successes, failures, and lessons learned along the way. If it motivates someone else to get outside and have an adventure, even better!

Too many people spend years planning the perfect trip, waiting for the perfect gear, or convincing themselves they need to spend a fortune before they can get started. Most adventures are cheaper, simpler, and closer than people think.

What you’ll find here

Adventures

Road trips, fishing, camping, backpacking, rafting, kayaking, and random wandering.

Projects

Truck builds, camper projects, repairs, modifications, and the occasional questionable idea that seemed good at the time.

Gear

Long-term reviews of equipment that actually gets used. No “Top 10 Must-Have Items” lists filled with gear most people can’t afford.

Recipes

Camp cooking, tacos, cobblers, Dutch oven experiments, and whatever else ends up getting cooked outdoors

My philosophy

Experiences are more important than things.

Adventures don’t require expensive gear.

Planing has its place, but endlessly planning accomplishes nothing.

Most importantly, Instead of asking “Why?”, ask “why not?”
